Ryder the Fighter

Custosm Artwork for Ryder Leonard Visintainer.

November of 2013, I found out I was going to be a Dad. I was not married at the time but excited about our little miracle heading our way. Everything, was going smoothly and at 17 weeks we found out we were having a BOY! At18 weeksthe doctors found his birth defect, gastroschisis. They explained that gastroschisisis where the abdominal wall does not perfectly close all the way andhis intestines are on the outside of his body rather on the inside. Surgery is required in the first few hours and/or days of life depending on the severity of the intestines.

My wife was scheduled for a C-section and Ryder was born a month early. He was born June 30th, 2014 at 8:14am. He weighed 6 lbs 13 oz and was 20 inches long.Ryder had surgery within an hour of being born and stayed in the NICU for a month to recover. On July 28, 2014 we were finally able to take him home. He is our "Ryder the Fighter" and I'm proud to be his father!

This piece is dedicate to my son Ryder Leonard Visintainer, stay strong!
