Created in 2008
"Off California" is a dedication and recreation of the famous woodcut, "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa", by artist Katsushika Hokusai. I had always loved the woodcut but visualized a sunset in place of Mt. Fuji. I wanted to create this piece in my style with a California twist. Hidden inside the waves are dedications to Hokusai and Japan. Everything hidden inside of the sun relates to California. "Off California" is also my way to mix both sides to the Pacific Ocean.
